It had been a long day. After being denied entry to Macau because I’d forgotten my passport, I’d spent six hours travelling back to Hong Kong, collecting my travel documents from the remote reaches of my friend’s apartment in Wu Kai Sha, and returning to Macau via a convoluted sequence of buses.
